The Cunning Little Vixen

Sabrina’s costume designs for Leoš Janáček's "The Cunning Little Vixen" use swatches of patterned and textured fabrics to define human and animal roles, enhancing the opera’s themes of nature and the human-animal relationship.

Sabrina explored the complex relationships between form and function to transform a human body into that of an animal in Leoš Janáček's opera "The Cunning Little Vixen." They used manmade patterns like plaids and herringbones to differentiate between the human characters and the animals. The animal costumes were crafted from various textures of fabric, swatched by Sabrina, to recall aspects of their fur, wings, or feathers. These designs enhance the opera's exploration of nature's resilience and the interconnectedness of all living beings, bringing the characters and their vibrant forest world to life.
